OVERVIEW

Chris: I’ve got so many songs that I’ve written with Lee that have never seen the light of day, and I didn’t want these to get lost. In the end, a lot of mine and Thommo’s songs ended up on the ‘box set’ version of the album. So what happened was, we had all these songs left over. And I was determined to get them finished. So I went to a studio in Crouch End with this guy called Anthony Leung, and he had the job of trying to pull these things together.

‘Deolali’ was based on an expression that’s probably not used these days. When British troops in India went a bit mad, they called it “doo-lally”, but it’s actually spelt “Deolali”, after a place northeast of Bombay. I did this quite simple rhythm guitar, and it’s one of my favourite bits of guitar I’ve ever done.
