Black and Blue

LYRICS

Hanging Round Your House Again
I Feel So Out Of Place
Going To The Corner Shop
The Man From Outta – Space
Seems So Very Long Ago
When We Stayed Up The Night
Like Those Days That Would Never End
And All Those Things What Never Mend

Feeling Kind Of Black And Blue
But The Fresh Winds On The Street
Free Falling Through The Years
But Im Still On My Feet

Early Before Breakfast Time
Sometime After Dawn
Gently Close The Front Door
Leave You On Your Own
But Now Its Over And I Cant Help Feeling Glad
Oh So Many Tears Were Spent
Oh So Many Years Just Went

And Im Feeling Kind Of Black And Blue
But The Wind Is On My Back
No Time For Fair Do Wells
Don’t Forget To Feed The Cat

No Time For Fairy Tales
No Time For Curtain Rails
No Time For Living Hells
No Time For Wedding Bells
Wedding Bells, Wedding Bells, Wedding Bells

‘Cause I’m Feeling Kind Of Black And Blue
But The Fresh Winds On The Street
Free Falling Through The Years
But Im Still On My Feet

Feeling Kind Of Black And Blue
But The Fresh Winds On The Street
Free Falling Through The Years
But Im Still On My Feet

Feeling Kind Of Black And Blue
But The Wind Is On My Back
No Time For Fair Thee Wells
Don’t Forget To Feed The Cat

OVERVIEW

Mike: I wrote ‘Black and Blue’ about breaking up with my missus, Sandra. We’d been married for a very long time. That song was about the breakup, and the relief, in some ways, when you’ve been stuck in the negative spiral that some relationships do get stuck in. So it’s about getting out of a negative spiral, really, and suddenly finding out things are okay, life’s okay. I suppose it’s like coming out of a depression or something. Relationships can get a bit like that, if they’re not very good. Also taking the piss in some ways: the wedding bells, the in-laws choosing the curtain rails and all that. It’s all about what the mother-in-law thinks – “Do you like the colour of the curtains?” – so l was taking the mickey out of that.
