C’est La Vie

OVERVIEW, VIDEO, LYRICS, COMPOSERS, AND REVIEWS

LYRICS

Life begins at five to eight
No time to waste, it will not wait
A lay-in that was yesterday
Up and at ’em into the fray

There’ll be no time to catch your breath
The enemy of life is death
So sweep the hallway, mop the wall
Your destiny’s about to call

The legislation’s in the bag
Justice, a toothless old hag
It’s every man now on his own
It’s all for one, you’d better run

And stand up tall against the wall
And one by one you all shall fall
And though you’ll try to get back home
Your cupboards bare, without a bone

Je ne le fais pas, c’est la vie
C’est comme ça que ça va être
Je ne le fais pas, c’est la vie
C’estcomme ça que ça va être

Stand up tall against the wall
One by one you all shall fall
And though you’ll try to get back home
The cupboards bare, without a bone

Some call it Armageddon
I’m sure you’ve heard them say
It’s a tyrannical heaven
And we’re only a moment away

Je ne le fais pas, c’est la vie
C’est comme ça que ça va être
Je ne le fais pas, c’est la vie
C’est comme ça que ça va être

OVERVIEW

Madness keyboard player Mike Barson wrote the song. It’s “about these crazy times we’re living in, and how I just want to stay on my boat and not be a part of all this madness,” he explained. “But of course, I’m a member of a group called Madness. Perhaps we should have called ourselves ‘Sanity.'”

EDITORS REVIEW

Madness has done it again! While it may not be a US number one, it has earned a spot on the B List on Radio 2. From the Act 1 introduction to the newly minted saxophone intro, "C'est La Vie" will have you hooked from the start. Lee's classic saxophone burps and squeaks are evident throughout the track, adding that unmistakable Madness flair that makes their music unforgettable.

The guitar riffs, cuts, and solos are more impressive than ever, providing a refreshing change from what we typically hear. If you listen closely, you'll notice the addition of female backing singers, which adds a new layer of depth to the track. Unfortunately, this detail is absent in the studio mix, but it’s a highlight you won’t want to miss in the live version.

Overall, "C'est La Vie" is a Madness song you will want to experience.

TRACK RATING: 8/10
