LYRICS

Looks Across The Fields
That Lie Across The Playground
Dreams Of Life Beyond The Gates
And Far From This Town

Trapped Inside A Room
With Boring Little Children
Leon Dreams Of Life
Outside His Hollow Building

He Is Stuck Inside His Head, And In A Whirl
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World

Bleach, And Corridors
And Cold, And Drafty Windows
Smells That Drift Along
From Dinner Hall Up His Nose

Under Lock, And Key
His Dreams, His Aspirations,
One Day, One Man, One Way
One Bag, And One Station

He Is Stuck Inside His Head, And In A Whirl
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World

Rules, And Regulations
Clocks, And Times, And Tables
In This Goldfish Bowl
He’s Powerless Trapped Unable

Sick Of Marching
To The Beat Of Others Drumming
Step Aside For The New King
For Leon’s Coming

He Is Stuck Inside His Head, And In A Whirl
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World
He Is Stuck Inside His Head, And In A Whirl
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World
He Feels Like Running Out, And Owning All The World

OVERVIEW

Woody: I’d written a song that was a bit Kings Of Leon-ish, rough, straight, lots of guitar. It sounded fucking great. I played it to Nick, because I needed a melody and some lyrics. He said, “All I’ve got is a chorus: ‘I feel like running out / And owning all the world’.” And it made me think about when I worked as an assistant teacher in music technology in Kent. Every day I went in, suited and booted, and worked with the kids, deconstructing music and teaching them how to use Cubase. The boredom of the fucking day… Sometimes you just went, ” just want to get out of here, and fuck all these rules and regulations”. And it inspired me. “I feel like running out and owning all the world”‘. Because it’s slightly narcissistic, in the sense that some teachers want to be free, but they also fucking love telling people what to do. So I wrote about it. But it sounded like Kings of Leon, and Madness don’t sound like Kings Of Leon, they sound like Madness. I brought it in and I said, “Mike, what can we do with this track?” And he said, “Make it more like The Kinks”
